Grad Named Aviation Association Secretary

Douglas Carr, a graduate of the Aviation Management Program in the SIUC College of Applied Sciences and Arts (CASA), has been named corporate secretary of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA).

“We’re very pleased to see a CASA graduate named a corporate officer of the nation’s leading business aviation organization,” said CASA Dean Paul D. Sarvela. “NBAA member companies earn annual revenues approaching $5 trillion and have more than 19 million employees, worldwide.”

NBAA, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C., represents more than 7,600 companies that own or operate general aviation aircraft or are involved with business aviation. The NBAA Annual Meeting and Convention includes the world's largest display of civil aviation products and services.

Carr has been the NBAA's director of government affairs since February, 2001, and previously served as the association’s manager of domestic operations.

According to an NBAA news release, “Carr has distinguished himself…working as part of the Fractional Ownership Aviation Rulemaking Committee to develop...guidelines for obtaining an FAA Part 135 Air Carrier Certificate.”

Before joining NBAA, Carr was employed by the National Air Transportation Association and had spent six years in the U.S. Navy.

“We deeply appreciate Mr. Carr’s continuing and vigorous support of CASA programs,” Sarvela said. “He is a member of the Aviation Management and Flight Advisory Committee; has represented NBAA at several Aviation Management Society Career Expos on campus; and has arranged for NBAA to sponsor the 2003 and 2004 SIUC Corporate and General Aviation Career Days.”
